Great album and gets my vote on vinyl with a couple of qualifications
I wouldn't be surprised to see this in the list of top albums for 2020 and the media is giving it good reviews too. If you've not quite bought into Haim before (like me) then give this a try - it really holds your attention from start to finish and my only complaint is that there is no digital download voucher nor Amazon autorip. The double album runs at 45 rpm and is 170g approx. black vinyl. The inner sleeves are glossy paper with lyrics and credits which you might want to line with poly-inners or supplement with better inner sleeves. Really good to see the lyrics which are often absent - thanks to the sleeve designers. The vinyl generally plays very cleanly with a couple of caveats:- This 45 rpm album may test the tracking of your arm/cartridge – it did mine and I had to increase my tracking weight by 10% to remove a bit of edgy coarseness to the sound. Maybe it is telling me something or maybe the mastering engineer was pushing the envelope. Perhaps you won’t experience a problem. Beyond this, the sound has really strong presence and good balance.- Superficially all is good with the pressing - no marks, flat etc - however - I did have a problem with my first copy with a noisy track on the second disk, and had to get a refund and repurchase. My 2nd copy is a keeper so it may be worth persevering if you hit a pressing problem: one reason to use Amazon’s excellent return service and not a label or group merchandizing site proffering coloured vinyl under a dodgy return policy.

Unfortunately this is a band going nowhere.
Have you ever come across an album that you can not wrap your head around? For me,this is one such album. I have the two previous releases from Haim, and they were excellent. I am all for bands exploring their musical horizons. I absolutely adored their previous 2 albums. It clear that the young ladies are very talented. They are multi instrumentalists, their lyrics were catchy on the 2 previous albums. That said, this album feels like the ladies have stuck 2 fingers up to the fans. It is like saying we gave you 2 excellent previous releases, now we can start to indulge ourselves in just going through the motions to cobble together an album.Let's start with the first track, you get a saxophone, which is beautifully played. You do get a jazz vibe from that track. So you could be forgiven for thinking, " this will be an album to savour". Sadly, this is not the case as it goes downhill from there. It is obvious that whoever manages the band, they wanted an album that appeal to a larger audience.Parts of the album relies heavily on electronica and programming of various electronic keyboards. Then you get some country style tracks. There is also a touch of Americana, as much as I love that genre, it makes no sense why it is here. I mentioned above " appeal to a larger audience ". I suspect that this is the suits in money doing this. This would be such a shame as these wonderful, talented ladies have so much more to offer. There have been some reviews that have mentioned the sound reproduction. It is true that some of the tracks finish abruptly. I suspect that this may have been because of some tracks being released as "radio tracks ". As to the description of "tracks being compressed", I would refer you to my above line.My overall impression is that this is a band that will not be a long lived band.

Lovely songs ruined by poor sound quality.

Good album let down by sound...
Cd review... I'd rate the album 4 stars for content but 3 overall due to sound quality.I agee with another review. I like the album but the sound quality is typical pop music standards ie. The producers not bothered about the sound quality because teens don't give an F about it apparently! To be fair its not the whole album that sounds 'digital but overall this still let's it down. Shame!
